About WixEdit

WiXEdit is an editor for XML source files for the Windows Installer XML (WiX) toolset to build MSI and MSM setup packages. WixEdit tries to make the editing of WiX XML source files simple and comprehensible for everyone. Without any or little knowledge of WiX or even XML, you can create MSI installer packages for your software!

WixEdit is the only editor for WiX XML source files which is activly being developed, if you like what you see please help out!

WixEdit v0.6.1762 has been released. (29th march 2007)

WixEdit v0.6 contains the long awaited support for WiX 3.0 and its extensions! The use of the WiX v3.0 extensions is really easy and blends in with the standard functionality. You only have to point WixEdit to the directory containing the XML Schema Definitions (XSD) of the extensions, which are located in the /doc sub directory of the WiX installation.

Goals

The main goal is to help create MSI installers using the WiX toolset. This project helps to edit WiX source files, and gives you a better overview over your installer. It will still be necessary to have some knowledge about the WiX toolset, but the program helps to display the files in a structured manner and maintain an better overview while navigating through the wxs file.

Current functionality:

WixEdit can be used to edit every aspect of a WiX project file. If you think there is missing something, let me know.

An very much appreciated features are the dialog editor and the install data editor. Those features are really useful to edit larger WiX project files. Also the xml viewer for WiX errors and warnings is really useful.

Some new features: Support for WiX 3.0 and its extensions. You can search all of the WiX project file for text, import registry files and even use include (*.wxi) files!

Currently working on:

1. Fixing reported issues.
2. Adding requested features.
3. Adding hints for linking to library files.
